Have you been considering changing your style? We all like a change every now and then, but that doesn’t mean that you should go too overboard. Here are 5 simple ways to change your style without too much risk.
Most people don’t like any big, dramatic changes all at once and usually end up regretting them if they try it. As such, you want to take this in little steps, giving yourself the option to change things progressively and as and when you would like to.
In this article, we are going to be looking at 5 simple ways to change your style without going overboard, so keep reading if you would like to find out more.
5 simple ways to change your style
Create a Style Mood Board
Before starting to make changes to your style, start by figuring out what you like and what you don’t like.
One way to do this is to create a Style Mood Board on Pinterest, and if you want some inspiration, have a look here.
Start by searching for influencers and celebrities whose styles you like and pin them to a board. The more images you pin the better, as Pinterest will then give you more ideas of styles that fit in with your taste.
You can then use this for inspiration when you’re putting together your look, but remember that your style evolves so it’s important to keep your mood board up to date, as what you liked 3 months ago may no longer be to your taste.
Alternatively, you can try an outfit challenge, such as our “New Year, New You challenge“. This has now finished, but you can still take the challenge by following all the posts, or just pick the posts you want to try!
Also, have a look at this post about “why and how you should analyse your outfit“, which will help you determine what it is you like and don’t like about each look.
Investigate new brands and consider clothes swaps with friends or renting.
One of the reasons we get stuck in a style rut is because we tend to always shop at the same shops and buy the same types of clothes.
If you want to change your style, then I recommend going into a shop you don’t normally go to and step out of your comfort zone by trying on something that you wouldn’t normally consider.
Maybe you will hate it, but maybe you will discover something that you love! If you need help, you could consider hiring a personal stylist or a personal shopper.
If you don’t have the budget to shop and/or don’t want to, another great way to keep your wardrobe fresh and to change your style is to swap pieces with your friends. Swap something you haven’t worn in months for a piece that your friend has got bored with (but that you would love to try and that is different to your normal style).
You can just swap with one friend, or (when the covid restrictions are lifted), it’s great fun to organise a girls’ “clothes swapping” night. Operate a “one-in, one-out” policy so you don’t clutter up your wardrobe.
Clothes swapping with friends is a great way to change your style without spending any money, whilst also being good for the environment.
You might also want to consider renting instead of buying, as this is a great way to change your style without a long-term investment, and as with clothes swapping, is less damaging for the environment.
Renting allows you to experiment with changing your style for a fraction of the cost of buying and you also get to feel like you’re wearing new clothes all the time! It’s also a great option for weddings or parties, where you don’t want to invest in an outfit that you may only wear once!
Consider Wearing Prints
One of the things that you should consider is wearing more prints. Are you someone who wears prints a lot? It’s not actually all that common, but they look spectacular so you might want to try and incorporate some prints into your look, for a quick and easy way to change your style.
If you’re new to wearing prints, then start with a simple, understated print, such as horizontal stripes or polka dots.
Once you are more comfortable with prints, you could try a bolder print, such as a floral print or an animal print, but until you feel comfortable with prints, just stick to one print piece.
You could even go as far as to start mixing prints when you get a little more comfortable wearing them.
Of course, you don’t have to go too far with this if wearing prints makes you uncomfortable and just start by including them in your outfit where you can, such as with a print accessory.
What About Your Jewellery?
Another thing that you should think about is the way that you are accessorizing your outfit. Many people don’t like to wear too much jewellery because they don’t want to distract from the outfit.
Or, maybe you are worried about adding too much jewellery and looking like you are a walking, talking advert for a jewellery store!
However, the right jewellery can instantly both elevate and change your style. So, instead, you need to wear things that are simple, but elegant and can stand out all on their own. Thomas Sabo jewellery has some lovely pieces that you might want to consider, and check out other designers like this for a beautiful, but not over the top, look.
Experiment with layering and stacking necklaces, bracelets and rings and choose jewellery that really makes a statement to bring a simple outfit to life. But if you’re wearing bold clothing, then often it’s a good idea to go with smaller, more subtle jewellery so as not to distract attention away from the outfit and look to “overdone”.
Have some fun experimenting, put on a very basic outfit and try it out with different combinations of jewellery.
Get creative with pieces you already own
You might want to change your style but not too much that you’re going for something completely new, and too far out of your comfort zone.
There is nothing wrong with this and you can start by wearing something that is similar to what you wear now, but with some small modifications. For example, get creative with the pieces you already own in your wardrobe and try combining them in different ways. If you always wear one outfit that you especially love, then start by changing the accessories to get a different “vibe”. Just experiment and have some fun!
If you think that you’re going to struggle here, it’s probably a good idea to talk to a personal stylist that will be there to tell you exactly what clothes would look fantastic on you.

Thank you so much Jill! I think clothing swaps are great fun – unfortunately we can’t host them here at the moment because of the restrictions, but hopefully we will be able to later this year……
I love that quote…”look good, feel good, live your best life” I don’t always think that people realize how much looking good affects how we feel.
I’ve been working hard to mix prints more and more. I consider it a challenge.
