Welcome back to The Velvet Runway and this feature about Epic UK Road Trips to Try This Winter.
Planning a winter road trip? Winter can be a beautiful time of the year in the UK, making it a great time to jump in the car with family or friends and explore. With so many places all over the UK to visit, deciding the best places for a road trip can be challenging.
Here are a few places that should be on your shortlist.
Epic UK Road Trips to Try This Winter
1. Cambridgeshire
A road trip around Cambridgeshire is a great option as you can take in stunning English countryside and enjoy winding roads and charming villages. Of course, you can end up in Cambridge – one of the UK’s prettiest and most prestigious destinations.
This historic city captures British heritage with majestic college buildings, stunning architecture, cobbled streets, quaint passageways, and traditional marketplaces.
2. North of Scotland
Travelling to the North of Scotland allows you to discover the stunning and wild natural beauty in this part of the UK. Additionally, the further north you head, the better your chance of seeing the Northern Lights.
There are many inviting places to stay in this region, including Sango Sands, Dunnet Bay, and Orkney. You will want to split up the driving, so be sure to take out temporary car insurance for anyone who will get behind the wheel.
3. North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire is seriously underrated as a travel destination in the UK. You have something for everyone here, including stunning English countryside, historical significance, and lively towns and cities with plenty of tourist attractions.
A great road trip would involve starting in Scarborough before finding your way to the beautiful seaside town of Whitby and then heading to York – one of the most notable historic cities in the UK, founded by the ancient Romans.
Once you have seen all the York has to offer, you can finish up your road trip adventure in Harrogate. Harrogate has a long history as a spa town with several excellent spas to check out, as well as shopping and places to enjoy afternoon tea.
4. Jurassic Coast
The Jurassic Coast is a superb place to visit at any time of the year thanks to its beauty and incredible geology, but there is something special about this World Heritage Site during the colder months.
The dramatic coastline makes for a brilliant backdrop as you explore the area, with a few notable highlights including Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, and Fossil Forest.
5. Pembrokeshire Coast
The Pembrokeshire Coast in West Wales is one of the most beautiful places in UK. It can be busy during the summer but becomes much quieter in winter, and there is something special about enjoying this area during the winter months with its enormous limestone cliffs and golden beaches.
And, no visit to Pembrokeshire would be complete without seeing the picturesque colored houses of Tenby.

These all look incredible! I have not been on a road trip in forever. Last time was when I lived on the west coast went from Seattle to southern Oregon. The Pembrokeshire coast reminds of the west coat of the U.S. a bit. Would LOVE to see the northen lights one day.
