Welcome back to the Velvet Runway and this feature about Five Ways to Refresh Your Skincare Routine.
Everyone knows healthy skin depends on a good skincare routine. Yet it’s easy to fall into a rut. If you’re not satisfied with your results, perhaps it’s time to switch things up. But what are some of the different tactics you can use?
In this article, we’ll share five ways to refresh your skincare routine.
Five Ways to Refresh Your Skincare Routine
1. Upgrade your set-up
Don’t underestimate the importance of your surroundings whilst you do your skincare. You need a comfortable and calming space with good-quality lighting to encourage an easier morning and evening routine.
If your space doesn’t already have a good supply of natural light, consider investing in an illuminated mirror that gives you a well-lit view of yourself. With a better look at your face, you’ll be able to do your skincare routine and apply your makeup more effectively. You’ll also be better able to notice any results!
2. Get rid of expired products
Not only do expired skincare products not deliver the same results as fresh ones, but they’re also more likely to host germs, bacteria and mould. You could get adverse skin reactions like irritation, bacterial infections or breakouts if you continue using them after they’ve gone off.
Protect yourself by always checking the expiry date on your skincare products. If you’re in doubt for any reason, it’s safer to just throw it away.
3. Take sunscreen seriously
Using sunscreen every time you leave the house is a powerful way to boost your skincare routine. This isn’t just something you need to do during summer. The sun still shines when the days are shorter and colder, and its harmful effects on your skin can build up over the long term.
Many people with darker skin think that they don’t need to apply sunscreen. But even the darkest skin tones need protection from the sun. Everyone’s skin is susceptible to sun damage, which can cause moisture loss, wrinkles, burns, roughness and discolouration.
4. Improve your diet
If you think your skincare routine is on point but your skin still doesn’t look its healthiest, you might benefit from rethinking your diet. Nutrition plays an important role in determining the health of your skin.
To keep your skin in the best condition possible, you need to eat a balanced diet that’s rich in antioxidants, minerals like zinc and selenium, and vitamins D, C, E and K.
5. Try something new
Been using the same products for a long time? Go through your usual choices with a critical eye and decide if they’re giving you the results you want.
If you find any that you’ve been using simply out of habit or even though you’re not satisfied with them, now’s the time to try something new instead. There are a huge number of cutting-edge products out there that you can choose from, so don’t settle for anything less than the best.
For instance, incorporating ultra-soft hypoallergenic face wipes into your skincare routine will effectively refresh your skin by gently removing impurities and providing a soothing sensation.

Yes, diet is very important in skin health; thanks for mentioning set-up. I have to rethink how and where else I can do my skin routine in my home.
Thanks for reading! It’s so important to have a well-lit spot to do your make-up (as I have sometimes discovered to my cost! 😂)

It is amazing how what we eat affects our skin so much. I’m terrible about using older products. I need to be better.

It’s really amazing how what we eat affects our skin, not to mention our overall health, so much! I’m really trying to pay more attention to what I eat xoxo
Great tips
Glad you think so xo
So many good tips! Do you also have any tips on getting rid of dark spots? I tried tons of oils, creams, etc. none has helped.
Thanks Angie, Daily exfoliation and cleansing with AHAs and BHAs is a great way to at least lessen dark spots; and Caudalie has a really good serum, it’s called “Vinoperfect” and it reduces dark spots too. xo
