Preparing your skincare in this way allows you to relax into your vacation, knowing you’re protected. We’d also recommend moisturizing, taking cool showers, occupying shade when you can, and wearing breathable fabrics.

    Stay hydrated

    2. Stay Hydrated

In hot climates, staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining your health and well-being. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty, to prevent dehydration.

Carry a refillable water bottle with you at all times and replenish fluids regularly, especially when engaging in physical activities or spending extended periods outdoors.

    3. Seek Shade

When traveling in very hot climates, seek shade whenever possible to escape the intense heat and reduce your risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Take regular breaks in shaded areas, such as under trees, umbrellas, or awnings, especially during the hottest part of the day.

    4. Plan Outdoor Activities Wisely

It’s important to plan outside activities with care. The last thing you need is to burn up or feel completely uncomfortable in your own skin, especially if you overheat.

Plan outdoor activities for early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler, and avoid strenuous exercise during peak heat hours.

When temperatures soar, retreat to air-conditioned spaces such as hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, or museums to escape the heat and cool off. Take advantage of air-conditioning wherever available, and use fans or portable cooling devices to create a comfortable indoor environment. Consider scheduling indoor activities during the hottest part of the day to avoid exposure to extreme temperatures.

But on the hottest days, we’d recommend avoiding direct sunbathing, or strenuous exertion such as beach volleyball. Balance your effort in function of the weather, and make sure you cool off by swimming a little, or enjoying a delicious ice cream when possible.

    5. Dress Appropriately

Choose lightweight, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen that allow air to circulate and sweat to evaporate, keeping you cool and comfortable in hot climates. Opt for loose-fitting, light-colored garments that provide coverage from the sun while still allowing for ventilation. Don’t forget to wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

    6. Protect Electronics

As strange as it sounds, intense, direct heat and sunlight can cause real damage to your electrical devices if not properly protected. A smartphone left in the sun can overheat and warp the battery which could be a relative safety risk, while hearing aids that are directly exposed to very hot sunlight could also malfunction and cause a safety issue.

Having carrying cases, staying away from intense heat, and being mindful with storage will help you avoid the worst of it. However, while many who live in extremely hot areas know of this risk, not everyone does, and this could be a shock to you if heading elsewhere.

Great point on the electronics. We used to keep our phone on our dashboard until it stopped working because of the sun. Now we know better.
