I think that my new Chanel eyebrow pencil is an appropriate addition to my make-up bag this week, as the statement brow is set to continue as a major trend in 2016. And, if that isn’t enough to persuade you of the importance of a well-shaped brow I’ve been told that it can knock years off your appearance (and if you’re over the big 4-0, who doesn’t want that?!)
New in my make-up bag : Chanel eyebrow pencil
After years of over plucking my eyebrows (which believe it or not was fashionable at one time!), the end result is that my eyebrows are very sparse and certainly don’t add any definition to my face. I’ve tried both the expensive lash growth products and home remedies, such as castor oil and coconut oil, but none of these seemed to work for me (partly due to the fact that I don’t persevere enough and if I don’t see any difference quickly then I give up!). Has anyone found anything that works to boost natural hair growth around the brow area? If so, I would love to know!
However, in the meantime, I’ve adopted the ‘fake it until you make it’ approach and so I invested in the “Chanel sourcils sculpting eyebrow pencil” in number 40 (‘brun cendré’). This is actually the second time I’ve bought this product. I have tried other products in-between but find myself coming back to the Chanel eyebrow pencil as it gives a more natural result on me.
New in my make-up bag : Chanel eyebrow pencil
There are countless blog posts and tutorials about how to get the perfect shape eyebrow for your face but my basic problem wasn’t really about trying to reshape my eyebrows, but just to fill them in and prolong slightly at the outer edges.
So, the biggest challenge for me was finding the right colour. I am really happy with the ‘brun cendré’, but it is worth knowing that the Chanel eyebrow pencil exists in four shades (10 blond clair, 30 brun naturel, 40 brun cendré and 60 noir cendré.)
To find the right colour for you, choose a colour that is as close as possible to your natural colour. I often read that you should choose a colour 1-2 shades lighter than your hair colour, but for me I prefer to go with my brow colour.
Texture and ease of application
It is very easy to apply and the pencil includes a brush to comb through brows. For me, the ‘brun cendré’ is the perfect colour and what I love the most about this product is that the end result is so natural that you can’t even tell you are wearing eyebrow pencil!
I try to follow the natural curve of my eyebrow as much as possible, (I have tried the stencils in the past, but just ended up looking like a clown!), just slightly filling in the sparse areas and as I have quite short brows I usually also accentuate the end and start of my brows to make them longer
After I’ve finished (and if I have time), I use a clear eyebrow gel to fix everything in place.
Presentation
The only disadvantage of an eyebrow pencil (as opposed to a gel or a powder or even a retractable pencil) is that it needs sharpening, but a cute little pencil sharpener is included in the package so there is no excuse for not keeping the tip perfectly sharpened and ready to apply!
Staying power
This lasts all day on me without any need to reapply or touch up, even after the gym. I don’t know if it is officially waterproof but it was still in place after my shower!
Conclusion
The Chanel eyebrow pencil definitely works for me. In fact, the best review I can give it is the fact that someone commented that my eyebrows had grown really well, so it’s definitely natural!
In my case, I’ve found the perfect colour and that is what makes for such a good result. However, it may not be right for everyone and some people may prefer a cream, powder or gel formula.
The only other thing I would add is that this may not work for you if you have absolutely no eyebrows at all and you want to draw them on completely because the result may be a little too harsh.
The Chanel eyebrow pencil is available directly from the Chanel site , department stores such as Nordstrom and beauty shops, such as Sephora.

Julia, great review. i think the number of shades available is key, it should match your compliment for hair and eye colors, and I love the wand at the end!

Thank you Elle. I agree the number of shades is so important. You can have the best ever eyebrow pencil but if it doesn’t match your brows and compliment your hair and eye colours, then it is no use:)
Thanks for reviewing the product for us! I’ve never used Chanel eyebrow pencils but they sound good! Right now I’m using my Benefit brow set because it’s wax based so it helps shape my brow. And just a sephora brand eye pencil for filling in the sparse spaces.

Thanks for stopping by and for the tips. I’ve never tried the Benefit brow set, but it sounds good too:)
