Welcome back to The Velvet Runway and this feature about my new make-up product, the YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer.
Primers are the ‘in’ product these days. They do for your skin what ‘Spanx’ does for your tummy! They conceal, flatter and provide a base for your make-up, just as Spanx does for your clothes. They help create the ‘perfect’ canvas on which to apply the rest of your make-up. Whilst not indispensable to your make-up bag, they help to even-out skin tone, provide radiance and help to ensure foundation lasts longer.
YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer
If you remember from my first beauty post, I don’t like to spend a lot of time on make-up, although I do like to look as good as I can! Also, I want a very natural result – like me but better! So, any product that makes it into my make-up bag has got to be easy to use but give a great and natural result; and so I was very tempted by this illuminating primer which claims to blur imperfections and boost the radiance of foundation.
Don’t be put off by the gold flecks in this primer, as although they are clearly visible in the bottle, they are not visible on application, which is good news as although I love a bit of sparkle in my clothes from time to time I really don’t want any on my face! Once blended, the shimmer disperses evenly over the face and just gives a subtle glow.
If you remember I already have the Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base by Burberry, which also serves as a primer, so I decided to try the YSL as a primer, and the Burberry, mixed in with my foundation to add a subtle glow and as a highlighter where needed.
Read on for more details about the primer and where to buy it.
How to apply
Touche Eclat Blur Primer should be used after moisturising and before applying foundation to prep skin for foundation application by creating a ‘perfect’ canvas. YSL recommends applying with a brush or fingertips (needless to say I opted for my fingertips) and waiting ten seconds before applying foundation.
Benefits
The YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer is a transparent gel primer, which claims to even out the skin tone, blur imperfections and help makeup last longer.
It incorporates ‘blur technology’ to minimise pores and even out skin tone, as well as two light diffusers to reflect and illuminate.
The formula is also enriched with four nourishing oils—corn oil, apricot kernel oil, passiflora oil, and rice bran oil to hydrate and soften skin.
My thoughts
On the plus side, the packaging is very pretty and the pump bottle ensures that you don’t waste too much product, whilst keeping it hygienic.
The primer is incredibly easy to apply and the serum-like texture does seem to help to blur imperfections.
My skin certainly felt softer and the foundation did glide on very easily. I don’t suffer from break-outs but the primer claims to be noncomedogenic, and suitable for all skintones, including sensitive ones.
However, I would recommend only applying a small amount (less than half a pump for your entire face), where needed as it can feel too greasy if you apply too much. Also, it is essential to follow the advice to wait a few seconds before applying foundation to ensure that the foundation glides on easily and lasts longer.
On the negative side, being YSL, this is a luxury product and if you’re budget is tight, it may be that a primer is not the most indispensable thing in your make-up bag and you would prefer to invest more in a good foundation or concealer.

Thank you Christie! I’m glad you liked the review. Hope you have a great week too and see you at the next link-up 🙂
I love your review (thorough and honest) and photos (beautiful)! I have tried all kinds of primers (face, lips, and eyelids), and loved the color saturation I would get in my eye shadows, but never liked how they left my skin feeling…oddly powder-soft slick and then very oily because my naturally oily skin would go nuts trying to compensate.
Thank you for stopping by Regina and for your nice comment. Finding a good primer can be really tricky – too oily, too shiny, too powdery… the list is endless! This suited my skin, but I would recommend trying to get a sample before investing as it may not suit everyone. 🙂
I’ve never used a primer and rarely use foundation, but I need to start. This sounds like it would be a great choice especially since I have sensitive skin. Great review!

Hi Lili, Thank you! I think it would be a good choice for you if you have sensitive skin. It may be more difficult to get a sample of the primer but YSL counters often do a free 7 day trial of the foundation which might be a good way to try it out before you invest 🙂
Yes I love touch eclat! Been using the foundation for years so might as well get the primer 🙂 great post doll. Glad I stumbled up on your blog! You’re welcome to check out mine as well 🙂
