Incorporate natural light and ventilation

Large Windows

Light and fresh air are fundamental to a healthy living environment. Exposure to natural light can improve mood, boost productivity and help regulate sleep patterns. Luckily, many new build homes maximise natural light by installing larger windows and skylights and using paint colours that reflect light.

Ventilation is important for maintaining good air quality. Poor aeration can lead to a build-up of indoor pollutants, which affect respiratory health. Enhance airflow by installing ceiling fans, using purifiers, and regularly opening windows.

Declutter Your Space

A cluttered environment can contribute to stress and anxiety. Start by decluttering your home, focusing on creating open, organized spaces.

Adopt a minimalist approach where each item has a purpose and brings you joy. Regularly go through your belongings and donate or recycle items you no longer need.

Creating relaxing spaces

Incorporating dedicated areas for relaxation into your house can greatly contribute to your wellbeing.

Ways to Add Luxury to Your Daily Life

These zones can serve as relaxation sanctuaries for unwinding and de-stressing. Consider setting up a cosy reading nook, a meditation corner, or a tranquil outdoor area where you can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Calming decor plays a crucial role in creating a serene atmosphere. Use soothing colours like blues and greens, natural materials such as wood and stone, and comfortable furniture. Soft lighting and gentle textures can also enhance the sense of tranquillity.

Biophilic design

This modern concept seeks to improve your connection to nature. It has been shown to reduce stress, improve cognitive function and enhance mood.

Bring nature indoors by adding houseplants, using natural materials and incorporating water features such as fountains or aquariums.

Creating strong visual and physical connections to the outdoors is also important. Make full use of outdoor living spaces like patios and gardens where you can enjoy the fresh air and greenery.

Designing for physical activity

Having room for exercise can promote a more active lifestyle. Even a small workout area can help you avoid the need for a gym membership.

Equip these areas with cost-effective gear such as yoga mats, dumbbells and resistance bands.

Active design elements can also be subtly integrated into your home. A standing desk, balance board and an easily accessible garden can help you stay active throughout the day.

I’m lucky to have a separate room to exercise but I don’t go every day 😟 (even though I intend to!)
